Exciting News!

Andrew has accepted a job offer in Chicago and we will be moving in June! I am starting my job hunt now, and it's both exciting and scary. We have lived in New Orleans for almost nine (9!!!) years and I know I will miss the city. Chicago can be a new phase in our lives and will definitely provide both of us will greater career opportunities! I lived in Chicago briefly after Hurricane Katrina because my college was closed for a semester so I know a tiny bit about the city and Andrew has visited, too.

Any fun facts about Chicago, or does anyone want to offer me a job teaching high school history or geography?

I'm excited!

  1. Exciting!! I live near Chicago, and can tell you that you will love it!

I highly recommend that you hit up Molly's Cupcakes in Lincoln Park as soon as you get a chance. I am not an expert (far from it),but if you need a friendly blogging friend to connect with I would be more than happy to help you out!

  2. Yay, we'll be glad to have you! (Which might sound weird since I've never commented before, but I've been a fan of your blog for a while.)

Fun fact: The Loop smells like chocolate sometimes, because of the Blommer chocolate factory in River North. Also, the best hot dog places (imo) are Hot Doug's, Superdawg, and Gene & Jude's.

  4. I went to college in Chicago and I love the city. It has midwestern warmth while not being country, so many great places to eat, vibrant arts and music scenes, stunning architecture, unique neighborhoods and a lake so big (with beaches!) that you'll think you are at the sea. The only drawback: the winters. They are awful. But after your first one, you'll be totally acclimated. T-Rex will need a bigger coat.

    So exciting!

  5. Chicago is such a great city! And right next door to me, so maybe I'm a bit biased having it so accessible. Do you think you will live in the city or are you looking at some of the suburbs?
Hmmmmmm... I've lived in Iowa since I was five, and I'm still not acclimated to the winters!
My Mom has THREE dachshunds (lol) and it is hilarious to watch them in the winter pile in front of a heat vent to keep warm. When the heat stops, they all run around the house vent to vent until they find one that is 'working'. When in fact, the furnace has just cycled through and is running again.
Ok, nothing to do with moving or Chicago, but cute dog story :)

  6. Yay!! It'll be fabulous to have you here! Word of warning: Buy a heavy duty down coat - winters are a mess. If you are looking to live in the city limits, check out Ravenswood, Lincoln Square or Lakeview - lovely areas, lots to do. Multiple street festivals every weekend in the summer, fabulous outdoor dining and beer gardens, and awesome museums. Check out Duke of Perth, La Creperie, and 1492 (tapas). I am so excited for you!
