300 follower giveaway!!!!

I have finally reached over 300 followers and 500 subscribers on Google Reader! I decided to celebrate by having a giveaway (and to avoid hoarding sewing patterns).

On Monday, November 24, I will select four winners. The giveaway is open to everyone, even international people. Please only enter if you want to sew up these patterns, and not to re-sell them online!

To enter, leave a comment with a link to the item you have sewn that you love the most, or are the most proud of, or learned the most from, etc. Then add the names of the two patterns you would like (or the skirt) and an email address.

On to the patterns:

  1. Ooo, congrats on the 300th follower!

I think I learned the most from my blue corduroy jacket. It had so many tailoring details to it, and I really pushed myself to try out new techniques with it (welt pockets! bound buttonholes! jacket lining! shoulder pads and sleeve heads! OH MY).

But I think my favourite two garments are actually the skirt and top I'm wearing in the second half of this post here.
    http://sewingonpins.blogspot.com/2011/09/finished-object-corduroy-jacket.html

I love my denim pencil skirt, and that blouse was a surprise favourite. Actually, I think next time I wear this, I'll toss on my corduroy jacket on top! PERFECT OUTFIT!

As for your patterns, you have some real beauties up there! I'm pleased that you offered up a range of patterns sizes, too. The only ones that would be close to fitting me are your largest, the Vogue 1382 and 1510, but I'm fine with that because I ADORE the green version of 1510, and I think I could really work with 1382. I love the embroidered collar!

  2. Wow, what a wonderful giveaway!! I think I learnt the most from my Crescent skirts. Tasia's sewalong was so helpful, and I got a good looking well made skirt out of it :)
I would love to win Butterick 2275 and Simplicity 5653. Such pretty dresses!

  3. Thank you for the very fun contest!

The most fun thing I've sewn in awhile is this pair of jeans:
    http://wundermarysays.blogspot.com/2009/06/disco-dons-duds.html
They were made for a friend who lives in Virginia (I'm in Illinois), to be worn to a disco party. Rather than try to get measurements and do a total draft, I asked him what pants fit him best, then went to Walmart and bought them. I copied a pattern off, then returned the pants.

I then altered the pattern to have a lower rise and some serious bells: 34" each! My husband printed and flocked the custom panels and pockets. I had a lot of fun making these!

If I were to win, I would love to have Vogue 2926 and the Dolores slip.

    Thank you!

  4. Thank you so much and congratulations!
My favorite dress is the most difficult dress I ever sewed and the one where I have learned the most. I might have spend more time on the net researching couture technique than actually sewing it. The thread is there if you want.

I would love either Vogue 9458 or 2926

  5. YAY! That's super exciting. So many reader followers (I think I'm one of them!)

What I learnt the most from so far has been my circle skirt Casey's sew-along. Drafting, and how to insert pockets! I still stuffed up a bit, but it's so much fun learning.

    http://adventuresandeverything.blogspot.com/2011/10/october-seven.html

I would LOVE the Advance 9928 and honestly, I wouldn't mind the skirt. My waist is currently at 33 inches (I'm trying to loose a few inches though).

  6. Oh my goodness well done on the followers - that's fantastic news! I have been searching and searching for the perfect pattern to replicate a little jacket I saw on Trudy in Mad Men and your McCalls 7704 is absolutely 100% perfect. I really hope I win! In fact Suzie from su-sews-so-so.blogspot.com spotted this first and told me I absolutely must comment. Thanks Suzie! And thanks Molly! x

As a beginner sewer everything is a great learning curve for me at the moment. But I think I learnt the most techniques from the Colette Beignet - buttonholes, waist reinforcement, constructing a lining etc.

  7. Oooh, stacks of great patterns. I love the McCall's 9407.

Here is my link. I have been trying to make pants but very unsuccessfully. The link is for the first pants I made for myself and by some fluke they were fabulous. I love that feeling.

Oh and I am giving away patterns at the mo too, sharing the love.

  8. Congratulations on so many followers, ive just joined so now you've got another! I'd have to say the best thing and the thing i learned the most from is the blue stripey cross back dress i made. It was the first thing I self drafted and also underlined, so two big learning curves there. http://theoldfashionedway.blogspot.com/2011/10/fond-farewell-to-self-stitched.html This is a brill giveaway, i cant decide which one i'd like but I'll probably opt for Simplicity 4087, or the McCalls 7704. Thanks so much!

  9. Congratulations on 300 followers! I'm one of your followers without a blog, so I can't link to my project, but the one I learned the most on was a lined dress from Burda WOF magazine. From tracing the pattern on the maze pattern sheet, to fitting, to figuring out the vague instructions, to lining, it wins hands down. The shoulders were too big after I was done, so I took the sleeves off, redrew the shoulders and sewed the sleeves back on - A feat for me.

    I love Vogue 9458 and Advance 9928!

  10. I think the garment I'm most proud of (and also wear the most) I haven't blogged about yet. I did blog a lump of my projects soon after I began sewing last Spring (see it here).

The Laura Ashley for MCall's dress at the bottom I've now made two versions of (and love, love, love!!) - coincidentally I believe you also made this pattern, yes? I've done view B and A and need to photograph both but I have lighting issues.

I'm loving Vogue 6001 - and it seems to be my size so no need to do epic amounts of grading! Unlike my other vintage pattern :)

  11. Congratulations!
I made the Emmeline apron a few weeks ago as a Christmas present for my mom, and I'm very proud of it. I particularly like my choice of fabrics! The pattern link is http://sewliberated.com/products/emmeline-apron-sewing-pattern

I really like Advance 9928 or the Vogue coat. Thanks for the chance to win!

  12. oooh! congratulations!!

i think the item that really stands out to me first & foremost is vogue 1117 (aka the michael kors "starlet" rip-off dress). it was a lot of firsts for me - first flat pattern alterations (FBA!), first muslin, first taking my time to do things right & not rush through. it turned out beautiful (if i do say so myself ;) and i wear it so so so much. here is the link: http://lladybird.wordpress.com/2010/06/17/pattern-review-vogue-1117-michael-kors/

my second runner-up is my lady grey coat - that was my first dabble into tailoring, with padstitching & bound buttonholes & all kinds of crazy expensive interfacing. it was definitely a learning process & i *love* my coat. here's the post on that one (pictures are bad, sorry! i should take better ones... hmmm...): http://lladybird.wordpress.com/2011/01/17/completed-the-lady-grey/

now that this comment is long enough, my pattern choices would beeeee vogue 2926. i require this pattern - seriously, uhhh can i buy it from you? please? :) i've been pecking around for a similar pattern, forreal.
oh wait, i get to pick two! the dolores slip. i need a slip pattern in my life!

  13. Hooray! Congratulations! What a sweet giveaway :D
My most proudly sewn garment was a vintage sunsuit for my daughter, found HERE :)
The patterns I would love are Advance 9928, and McCalls 2015. Love me a shirtdress! :D

    Thanks, and congrats again!!

  14. Congratulations and what fantastic giveaway. My preferred patterns are the Simplicity 8805, B 32 and Simplicity 4087, B 32.

I have many favourite projects but one of my recent favourite sand the one I learned the most was the Bombshell dress:http://suzysewing.blogspot.com/2011/10/camo-bombshell.html

But the Crepe dress I have done with Gertie sew along last year comes close in second.

  15. Yay, congratulations! Such a wonderful giveaway :) I really love Simplicity 8805 & Simplicity 4087.

In many ways, this open-backed pink dress is my favourite: http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/open-backed-pink-dress?image=169458 I haven't actually worn it yet (although I made it nearly a year ago!), but it was the first item I felt happy with once it was finished.

  16. What an exciting giveaway! OK, my favourite make is possibly my 1950s poppy dress http://kestrelfindsandmakes.blogspot.com/2011/08/1950s-poppy-print-dress.html
I made a bodice muslin then a full muslin so the fit is perfect, and I finished the whole thing off properly inside. I don't think it was the hardest thing I've made but I put so much work into making it perfect.
Re the patterns, I would select Butterick 2275 and Advance 9928. I love the shapes and necklines.

  17. You are so kind. I loved L: Butterick 7295, B 30 and vogue 6001'...

  18. Yay! I love a good giveaway and this is pretty awesome but I am terrible at choices so since I have to choose one to possibly win I would love to recieve the Butterick Dress #2275, very cute, and the Vogue Couturier Coat. I learned the most, had the most fun with a little jacket I made out of a Herringbone Wool and from a vintage Simplicity pattern. I am now an unrepentent tailoring fiend...I am gearing up to make another coat now, I love the detail and all the components. This is a link to my blog posts about my jacketing and tailoring adventure:

I'm feeling lucky, I hope I win and if I do my email is: sewlyaharpist @ gmail . com

  19. Hey Molly! I am not a blogger, and I am a really novice sewer. But I read sewing blogs and fantasize about projects all the time to keep me sane with grad school and work. I made a skirt a few months ago that has pockets, which was a first and a take on this pattern from Growing Home: http://www.mygrowinghome.com/2011/05/elastic-waist-flirt-skirt-inspired-by.html. I also made two versions of this Grainline tank top--http://grainlinestudio.com/products-page/tops/tinypockettank/--which was my first foray into tops. I have big plans to sew a ton once this semester ends. I have several skirts that I made a while ago that are now too long and too big that I'll be altering, and I have a few thrift store finds that I'll make wearable. It would be great to have an actual project to start from scratch, and McCall's 2015 would be a good stretch for me since I've never made anything with buttons. Even if I don't win the pattern, I live in Chicago, so we should get together for coffee or something sometime. emily dot e dot robinson at gmail.

  20. Congrats on the 300 followers!! I love the Butterick 2275 and Simplicity 4087 - sooo pretty! I think the item I've sewn that I love the most ... that would have to be my Doodles dress. I'd never worked with fabric paint before, and I completely freehanded the whole front of the bodice. I ended up loving the way it looked and the dress just flowed. Definitely one of my favorites, and I'm ready for spring so I can wear it again :) Thanks Molly! megan.grandstaff@gmail.com

  21. Congratulations on 300 followers. I recently joined a sew-a-long by Noodlehead.com, http://stitchandanoccasionalbitch.blogspot.com/
you can look at my pics on my blog - I learned a lot and it was a lot of fun, but I have been dying to try some retro patterns, I really like
    Butterick 7295 and Simplicity 5253.

  22. Hi Molly!

Thank you for the giveaway. My favourite thing that I've sewn so far is a retro like shirt dress 70's inspired:
    http://sertyan.blogspot.com/2011/08/70s-inspired-shirt-dress-simplicity.html

This dress also gave me the most learning curves!

The patterns you offered were so great. I would love (in that order):

    McCalls 7704, 31 bust
    Vogue 6001, B 34

Thank you!! sertyan (at) yahoo (dot) com

  23. The pattern I am most proud of is probably this skirt:
    http://tatulinkastales.blogspot.com/2011/07/finished-project-pleated-full-skirt.html

It was quite simple, but I like the way it turned out!

The patterns I would like are:
    L: Simplicity 8805, B 32
    R: Simplicity 4087, B 32

    (And they are my size!!)

Thanks for the great giveaway! :)

  24. I think the dress I'm most proud of is Vogue 8615:
    http://littlemisstwitchy.blogspot.com/2011/05/dress-in-week-and-sew-weekly-meet.html

It came together so beautifully, I made no mistakes on it (always a surprise) and I wear it all the time. I would call that a success.

Congratulations on your 300th follower! Thanks for the giveaway :-)

    I love:
    Simplicity 4087
    Butterick 2275

  25. Congrats on the followers! That's so cool!

It really would be difficult to say which of the items I've sewn over the years I've loved the most or learned the most from, but I think I'd have to say my wedding dress. I love the dress and how it turned out, but mostly the thoughts of making it are all wrapped up in the feelings/ happenings surrounding our wedding. (Wow, at some point I turned into a sap, I guess. lol) Anyway, if you want pics I'm blogging about how I made it:
    http://smolderingwickdesigns.blogspot.com/2011/11/my-wedding-dress-part-1.html

Of the patterns you have posted (which are all wonderful!) I think I like most Simplicity 4087 and Vogue 9458.

  27. Wow, this is a really nice giveaway. Congratulations on reaching 300 followers!

It's difficult to choose my favorite me-made item... I'll pick this 50's dress :
    http://amelienomori.wordpress.com/2010/07/21/50s-dress-photos/
First, because I love it and I love the fabric it's made of. Then, because this project involved a lot of firsts for me: first 50's dress, first vintage pattern, first lapped zipper, first darts, first invisible hem... So I guess I learned a lot while making it. I really tried to do my best on it.

My favorites patterns from your selection are Simplicity 8805 and Simplicity 4087. Thank you very much for this giveaway (which I saw at WeSewRetro)!

    http://crissybaker.blogspot.com/2011/11/not-bad-for-pair-of-curtains.html
it was tricky to make, but had a great result! plus, its made from old curtains- way to recycle, me!
    congrats on all your followers!!!

  29. Nice giveaway!
I think I would have to say I learnt the most from this adventure...
    http://crimsongardenia.blogspot.com/2010/08/evidence-of-simplicity-4911-being.html
I couldn't make the collar work so added an odd triangle to the back of it.
But the kicker is that even though I finished it in August last year, it was only last week that I realised why the zipper doesn't sit in exactly the right spot AND why I had to remake the waistband as I couldn't get it to fit... I somehow left an ENTIRE panel out of the skirt! No idea how that happened, how I sewed it up without noticing, how I wore it for a year without noticing or how I fluked it fitting me without the extra panel.
    Too weird, too funny!
If I'm lucky enough to be chosen, I like the look of Simplicity 4087 and Butterick 7295
