Zebra Party II pictures

Mardi Gras in New Orleans was super fun, like always. Stephanie bought a ton of brightly colored wigs and we all had a variety of costumes. It was the first year I can remember where random strangers wanted to take our pictures; some would ask and some would just snap a shot like you're in the zoo.

 I did wear my crazy Hawaiian dress for one day, but other wise I mostly wore my green.

 As you can see we were very colorful!

It was a great trip and now I want to bust out a birthday dress for my bday, which is later this week.

Zebra Party I complete

Stephanie said she like the Vogue pattern better, so I made that one which is for a 34 bust. Close enough and then she can wear layers if it cold out at the parades. 

 Clearly, it will spectacularly noticeable at a parade, where most people still dress fairly normally. It is meant to button in the front like an actual robe, but it's lycra! So I sewed it shut. If it fits over the dummy with no struggles, it will fit Steph. I also didn't finish any seams or do facings because it's lycra. Come on!

 It's pretty trippy and awesome!

 Under the sleeves are hidden side pieces with elastic, so the waist should be fitted.

I am quite pleased! I have a few more things to make before we leave, but I am being productive and sewing again! Whoo hooo!

This may be in part because Andrew went to NY on business from Tues-fri so I was forced to amuse myself. Which I did! I watch every episode of Downton Abbey in order! In four days! Yeah, that's healthy right?

I did complete all of this boring hand sewing while watching season 1 on Netflix. Hemmed a skirt, sewed on many missing buttons and replaced the straps on my brown silk dress blah blah blah.

I love loveeee Downton Abbey. Then I watched all of season 2 that has aired so far, which PBS has online. It was awesome. Now I am just sad that the Walking Dead and Downton Abbey are both on Sundays and I have to work! Pooh. This SNL skit cracks me up, trying to sell the show to guys on Spike TV. 

Mardi Gras madness dress

Here is my pattern, Simplicity 6057. It is for girls, but with a 32 chest. Works for me!I made the long sleeve maxi dress version with this fabric from that estate sale two weeks ago. Click the link for a close-up of the fabric and its border print. 

 The fabric has a little stretch and was about 2 yards of really, really wide fabric. I had a lot to work with.

 I used the border print around the bottom, and parts of it at the waist and for the cuffs. It doesn't fray at all, so I didn't hem it. I might still trim a bit off at the bottom, I haven't decided.

 I was able to leave out the zipper because it was stretchy, so I made this one day that I had off from work.

 Whoops, the facing is sticking out a bit!

It might not be so practical, but we are going to see Steph and Steven in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and I plan on wearing it then! It is perfect because I can wear layers underneath and it is very flashy so I will catch lots of throws! Whoo hoo. (Also, no one flashes anything at the parades. That is only trashy people and/or tourists on Bourbon St.)

Ok, I'm working at the restaurant for Thanksgiving. Cross your fingers I make a ton of money!

Saint-sational Superbowl Champion Capes

We live in New Orleans and love the Saints, and the city went crazy for the SuperBowl! So Sunday morning. my boyfriend and I slapped together matching capes for the parades (it's also almost Mardi Gras) and then the game. I ended up making the out of felt, because Jo-Ann's was sold out of practically every yellow and black fabric there.

This is mine. With my matching fleur-de-lis on my face!

This is my boyfriend's. They both have the trim at the bottom. He refuses to be on the blog, so I blurred out his face. lol.

He drew and cut out the fleur-de-lis for both, while i sewed it all together. I pinked all the edges so it looks interesting and the tie is gold cord (his) and ribbon (mine). And yes, that is a box of Vella. We are nothing but classy here!

This is a terrible, self-portrait of the other day. I wasted part of a Saturday morning tring to do something like victory rolls. I even watched youtube tutorials. My hair is long, and fine, and slippery and I suck at trying to do things with it. This is just one example of the monstrosities I created. I am not meant to be a hair stylist, I guess!
