Exciting NEWS!!!!

Hey guess what?!?!? Andrew and I are expecting a baby, due to arrive at the beginning of March!

We are so excited and now that I'm four months pregnant, I can share the news!

Look at that alien head!

I have not yet grown out of my clothes, but I have been looking at elastic waist-ed patterns that I already own. I made one tie-waist dress and am currently wearing it, but haven't taken any pictures yet! If anyone has any good pattern suggestions, I am all ears!

  1. Congratulations! I did notice you said you put on weight in the last post but didn't put it together! Here's wishing for a great pregnancy for you. I made some pants that tied up in the front where a fly would go that allowed my bump to grow and some shirred tops but it was summer. Don't know for the cold - can't help you there.

    1. Thanks! I'm thinking loose dresses, leggings and sweaters will get me through for work and home (hopefully).

  2. Congratulations! I hope you have a really smooth pregnancy.

I highly recommend vogue 1027. You will need to chop a lot off due to your height. :) I made 3 for myself for my pregnancy.

Megan neilson has some maternity patterns for simplicity, I think the wrap top will help in colder weather. I made the ruche top without sleeves, the wrap top with short sleeves. The piña dress is ridiculous low and she drafts for a b cup! Which is again ridiculous for pregnancy so be warned.

Jalie have a good selection of maternity patterns too, I made the nursing bra, the snaps where hard to find but Joann's should have something suitable.

There are plenty of normal patterns that will work if you're willing to do modifications which aren't that hard.
In the end you will hate your maternity clothes so I highly suggest having a compact wardrobe with lots of mixing and matching happening and you can donate the lot when you're done!

Also do not buy or make the burda maternity skirt it is horrible!! Just horrible!

  5. Congratulations ~ exciting times ahead! Enjoy the pregnancy and keep healthy. I can't help you out with the clothing, as in my era the trend was to wear lots of baggy ghastly looking clothes. Just wear what is comfortable and stylish for you as you go along, and as Kat above said, you will hate maternity clothing by the end and never go back to it ... J

  10. Yay!!! Congratulations!!! I noticed in your last post that you said you were trying to drink more liquids, and I wondered if you were pregnant! I just have babies on the brain since I'm 37 weeks pregnant, and drinking about 3 liters of water a day! Pregnancy is so amazing, enjoy every moment, it goes so fast!!!!!

Not a pattern suggestion, but more of a re-fashion. If you have a favorite pair of jeans, buy a second pair, in the next largest size. Cut a semi circle out of the front and serge in some stretchy spandex fabric to make a 'belly panel'. I did this with my favorite jeans and I am still wearing them, and they should be comfy til the very end.

Also any empire waist maxi dresses you have in your stash already will work great. The skirt pieces are usually just rectangles, gathered at the waist. Add a few extra inches and gather like normal and that should fit your bump nicely to the end : )

  12. Congratulations to you both, a very exciting time. I found vintage patterns from the 1970s and 60s were usually shapeless enough or empire style to work as maternity without doing too much to them. Can't wait to see what you come up with
